Our lineup of lithium-ion batteries is designed exclusively for the spacecraft, to store electric power generated by the solar array panels. Our lineup has the versatility in design to meet customer requirements and expectations. We can offer LIB with either space-grade cells or COTS-grade cells optimal to your request, selected from a wide range of options.
Space-grade Cells

- High energy density space-grade cells of 42, 55, 110, 145, 160 and 190Ah available
- High reliability and performance for long-life, which accounts for the abundant flight heritage

*1 MELCO’s LIBs for Gateway Project
- MELCO completed the delivery of Gateway HALO module batteries, and the development of IHAB module and ESPRIT module batteries is under way.
- MELCO supplied the battery cells for Gateway PPE module.
- Gateway battery design is based upon the heritage batteries of HTV (JAXA’s cargo-supply spacecraft to ISS) and HTV-X (Evolved cargo-supply spacecraft to ISS and Gateway) which satisfied NASA’s safety and relevant requirements including the thermal runaway tests.
Lithium-Ion Batteries Assembly (COTS cell based)
- Suitable for optimizing the capacity, volume and mass.
- Operatable under wide temperature range.
- Lower cost and shorter lead-time than space-graded cell based LIB.
- Cell level assessment for space application completed.
- 18650-cell battery mounted on Rapid Innovative payload demonstration Satellite 2 (RAISE-2), successfully completed all the mission in 2023.
