In the scorching heat at the Tuloy Sa Don Bosco Football Field, Joanna Ligo joined the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup™ 2024 Football Clinic in Muntinlupa on November 9.
Together with 29 other children, the 13-year-old gained valuable experience in the Okada Method of training session, developed by one of Japan's legendary footballers, Takeshi Okada. They received at least two hours of training and a mini-match under the guidance of Isao Dobashi and Ryota Abe, youth team coach of J3 League side FC Imabari in Japan.
“I am really enjoying this coaching clinic,” said Joanna. “I'm learning how to pass the ball and how to create space.”
Joanna also revealed that although she is enjoying the coaching clinic and having fun with her teammate, she is almost giving up on training because the sessions are so physically demanding and the weather so hot.
“It's very challenging because I was so tired and the weather was very hot, so I want to give up in the middle of the training. But I am pushing myself to do it (complete the training)”.
With the determination and hard work she puts in during training, Joanna - who dreamed of playing for the Women Azkals in the future - can hold her head high. Her never-give-up attitude is one of the best qualities for success, especially in football. Combine this attitude with Okada Method training, Joanna may just have found her “route to success”.
