Mitsubishi Electric has made a contract with Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) for manufacture of the Japanese Geostationary Meteorological Satellites, Himawari-8 and 9. JMA has been operating the meteorological mission of Himawari-6 and 7, capturing earth images over East Asia and Western Pacific regions, contributing to disaster prevention of the area. JMA is planning to launch Hiamwari-8 and 9 in 2014 and 2016 respectively, succeeding the former satellite Himawari-7. |
