Solar Power System (Singapore)
GlaxoSmithKline, an innovative leader in pharmaceuticals, taps into clean solar power provided by Mitsubishi Electric technology.
Using solar power to power the development of healthcare products
On a clear day, you might see a brilliant reflection gleaming off the roof of the GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical plant in Jurong, Singapore. It would be from the region's largest solar power installation. More than 400 solar panels generate approximately 80 kW of clean electricity to power a building where people are producing prescription medicines for the management of conditions such as asthma, peptic ulcers, HIV and migraines." It was easy to choose Mitsubishi Electric as our solar technology provider. Their reputation for high quality and reliability is well known in Singapore," said a GlaxoSmithKline spokesperson.
Developing new ways to make solar power even more "green"
By taking a fresh look at photovoltaic cell construction, Mitsubishi Electric has developed the "solder-coatingless cell," a highly efficient solar cell that requires no solder coating and helps to reduce the environmental impact of cell manufacturing. For that reason, Mitsubishi Electric solar power technology is being used, not only in Singapore, but also in Europe, Japan and even in rural areas where electric power is not readily available.
"We were pleasantly surprised to find that the installation of our solar system has had a positive ripple effect through our entire workforce by helping to generate interest in environmental issues and energy conservation," continued the GSK spokesperson.
