The headquarters of Mitsubishi Electric in Japan previously managed power systems sales in Thailand, and has to date received multiple orders for power stations, including two orders recently received for 500kV gas-insulated switchgear from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. The power systems business will now be managed directly in the local market.

"With the ASEAN Economic Community expected to launch this December, demands for power systems are expected to become more urgent in Thailand," said Ryoji Ando, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Electric Asia (Thailand). "We will utilize our assets to develop local power systems sales and related engineering services, and also to explore other promising fields for the Mitsubishi Electric Group in this growing market."

Since entering the Thai market in 1964, the Mitsubishi Electric Group has established local affiliates to manufacture and sell air conditioning systems, home appliances, building systems, factory automation systems and automotive equipment. Sales in Thailand account for about 30 percent of Mitsubishi Electric Group sales in Asia excluding Japan, which amounted to 1,047.8 billion yen in the fiscal year that ended in March 2015.
