FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 2951
Mitsubishi Electric to Deliver Additional 500kV Gas-insulated Switchgear in Thailand
Will contribute to increased reliability of local electric-power supply
TOKYO, August 6, 2015- Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced today that it has received two orders for 500kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), one each for the new Ayutthaya4 and Chaeng Watthana substations of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Mitsubishi Electric will begin shipping equipment in 2016 and both substations are expected to begin operating from 2017.
Mitsubishi Electric previously supplied EGAT with a 500kV GIS for Wang Noi Combined Cycle Power Plant Block 4 Switchyard in 2013. Leveraging their strong working relationship built through the past equipment supply, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding on technical collaborations to enhance the quality and reliability of EGAT's transmission and distribution technologies.
Mitsubishi Electric intends to continue to contribute actively to the reliability of electric power supply and thereby economic development in Thailand and other Southeast Asian nations.
Significant economic growth in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries have led to increased demands for power-supply equipment in these nations. Mitsubishi Electric has been supplying generators, transformers and other such equipment to customers in Thailand since the 1970s. Thailand is now the key market for Mitsubishi Electric's business strategy in Southeast Asia.
