Mitsubishi Electric's Executive Corporate Advisor Dr. Nomakuchi Wins Intellectual Property Achievement Award
Recognized for contributions to development and expansion of Japan's intellectual property system
TOKYO, April 10, 2015- Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced today that Executive Corporate Advisor Dr. Tamotsu Nomakuchi has been awarded by Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry for his contributions to the nation's intellectual property system. The Intellectual Property Achievement Awards program is administered by the Japan Patent Office (JPO).
The award ceremony will be held at the Tokai University Club hall in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo on April 17.
Dr. Nomakuchi, as a member of the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters under the Prime Minister's cabinet from 2003 to 2007 and then again from 2009 to 2013, helped to establish a national strategy to strengthen Japan as a hub of intellectual property. Specifically, he contributed to the formulation of strategic programs, acceleration of the JPO's examination process and establishment of the Intellectual Property High Court. As chairperson of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Industrial Structure Council from 2007 to 2014, as well as chairperson of the Industrial Property Council of the JPO from 2006 to 2014, he guided critical discussions regarding Japan's intellectual property policy.
Dr. Nomakuchi also served as chairperson of the Japan Intellectual Property Association from 2007 to 2009 and chairperson of the Committee on Intellectual Property of Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) from 2006 to 2012. In these capacities, he helped to solidify and give voice to the opinions of the Japanese industrial sector, both Japan and overseas, thereby contributing further to Japan's intellectual property system.
