Mitsubishi Electric Chosen by Volvo to Develop Advanced Infotainment Technology

Tokyo, May 22, 2012 - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today it has been chosen by Volvo Car Corporation as a partner to develop next-generation automotive infotainment systems for all Volvo vehicles launched from November 2013 onwards.

Since 1969, Mitsubishi Electric has been supplying Volvo with car audios, navigation systems and other infotainment equipment. The company's track record as a reliable supplier, as well as its technological capabilities and history of developing strong solutions, all were important factors in Volvo's decision.

"We are looking forward to further cooperation with Volvo," said Yutaka Ohashi, Group President of Mitsubishi Electric's automotive equipment. "As we expand our partnership, we look forward to developing advanced infotainment systems that offer Volvo car owners highly intuitive access to information and entertainment."

"We are very happy to have Mitsubishi Electric as a partner. Their world-leading knowledge and experience will bring the infotainment system in our cars up to an entirely new level," says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO at Volvo Car Corporation. "We design our cars around people's needs and lifestyle. The extended cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric, who has been one of our suppliers for more than 40 years, paves the way for integrating new, user-friendly infotainment and connectivity features in our cars," he added.

Mitsubishi Electric Automotive Europe B.V.'s Gothenburg Technical Center in Gothenburg, Sweden will drive the development of car navigation systems, car audios and audio head units for Volvo, and support Mitsubishi Electric's joint-development initiatives with the auto manufacturer. The Gothenburg Technical Center was established in 1995 as a base for automotive equipment development, and currently has a workforce of 40.
