If there is a problem,
the solution should be perfect
First released August, 2019
“Unlike other companies, Mitsubishi Electric were able to adapt their system to fit the existing project design. This was the first and most important factor in choosing them.”
Mr. Hiromi Shoda, Marmaray Project Manager, Taisei Corporation
TAISEI CORPORATION- Transportation/Construction, Turkey -
Marmaray Project
Mitsubishi Electric: Can you tell us about your company?
Mr. Hiromi Shoda: The Taisei Corporation, known since 1873 for its large scale and reputable projects throughout the world, especially in Japan, is known in Turkey for the Marmaray Project as well as the deepest tube tunnel in the world that connects the continents of Asia and Europe.
Mitsubishi Electric: What did Mitsubishi Electric accomplish in the Marmaray project? What was it responsible for?
Mr. Hiromi Shoda: Mitsubishi Electric developed SIMS, or a factory automation system called 'Station Information Management System'. This system is responsible for the automation of the project’s Power Distribution and Tunnel Ventilation Systems.

Marmaray Project: Connecting two continents with the tube tunnel
If we consider the project like a human body, SIMS acts as a heart and a brain. Mitsubishi Electric really played a large part in this project. If we had used a ready packaged system we would have had to reexamine the main systems first or establish a brand new system when faced with a problem.
Thanks to the Mitsubishi Electric's SIMS we did not have such a problem. This was the biggest difference from other systems.

The underwater tunnel is the deepest around the world
with a depth of 60 meters.
ME: Can you tell us about your reasons for preferring the Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation Systems?
Mr. Shoda: First of all I want to point out that a number of big companies had participated in the project tender. All of these companies were presenting the system we needed in ‘ready package’ form. They said “This is the way our system is. You should design your project according to this.”
But Mitsubishi Electric said, “We can adapt the system you need according to the existing project design.” This was the most important and first factor in our choosing them. Secondly they were financially advantageous. And last but not least I saw that the experts of Mitsubishi Electric located here were confident, had an enthusiastic approach to the project and were very ambitious to succeed.
As a result of these 3 reasons we chose to work with Mitsubishi Electric.
ME: Istanbul residents using Marmaray are very pleased. Were you also pleased to work on this project with Mitsubishi Electric?
Mr. Shoda: Yes we were satisfied. Mitsubishi Electric’s team came to us with very constructive suggestions when we encountered a problem and worked with focus on a solution. This was very important for me. I was very impressed by the capabilities of the system and the employees and I put my trust in them.
ME: What are your expectations from Mitsubishi Electric for the future?
Mr. Shoda: I expect Mitsubishi Electric to operate with the same passion and dynamism during the maintenance processes and therefore the system to continue working smoothly in the 1st year, 2nd year and 10th year. Also I hope to see the Mitsubishi Electric brand cooperating with other Japanese companies or with other foreign companies investing in Turkey on even bigger projects. They need to establish teams comprised of various Turkish professionals with this work discipline. As the Taisei Corporation we want to cooperate with Mitsubishi Electric on other projects in Turkey. I hope to continue with this satisfying business partnership.
