The Wheel Shape Measurement System (hereinafter referred
to as the System) is the equipment that automatically measure the diameter
and thickness of tyres, height, thickness and angle of flanges, and vertical
wear of flange without touching them. The Detection Section, which is
installed on the track, with buit-in laser light sources and CCD cameras
takes photographs of the passing wheels. The Data Input Management Section
beside the rail image-processes the photographs and automatically calculates
the measurements of each part of the wheels. The calculated measured values
are sent to the personal computer (PC) in the office. The PC displays,
prints out, and manages those values. In addition the PC shows the photographed
images so that the wheel profiles can be monitored. The System exchanges
data with upstream data management systems and the wheel lathe unit with
the aid of the Ethernet. |
